How does a speakers bureau work?
We represent select authors in paid speaking engagements. Whether you have a specific speaker in mind or would like assistance choosing someone for an event, we are here to help. We work with event organizers every step of the way, from contracts, to travel terms and arrangements.
What types of speakers do you represent?
We represent a wide range of speakers, including bestselling authors, journalists, educators, advisors, and business leaders. Our speakers cover topics from leadership, motivation, and spirituality to creativity, diversity, and sustainability. All of our authors deliver thought-provoking and entertaining presentations. They are available to speak to corporations, schools and universities, industry conferences, and more.
What types of events do you book for your speakers?
We handle all types of speaking engagements, both public and private. Our speakers have appeared at medical conferences, schools, universities, corporations, industry conferences, retreats, and private clubs. In addition to keynote lectures, our speakers present breakout sessions and workshops at conferences, and retreats.
What is the cost to book a speaker to my event?
We represent speakers in all price ranges. While every speaker has a standard fee, costs can vary based upon the length and requirements of the engagement. If you would like to request a certain speaker’s fee and travel requirements, please contact us directly.
How do I learn the availability and cost of a specific speaker for my event?

Will my speaker customize their talk to suit my organization or event theme?
Speakers will have complete information on you, your event, your audience, and why they’ve been booked. They will take such all into account so that they can design and customize their presentations.
How do your fees work? Are there any hidden charges?
There are no ‘hidden’ fees—our costs are included in the speaker’s fee. Venues are responsible for all travel expenses associated with the event and will be clearly outlined in the contract.
How are travel arrangements handled?
The event host is responsible for booking all travel to and from the event, including ground transportation in the speaker’s home city, local hotel accommodation as needed, and ground transportation in the event city, unless otherwise agreed upon. Following the event, we will invoice you for any out-of-pocket expenses incurred by the speaker or those incurred should Spotlight be responsible for any bookings.
Do you provide promotional materials?
We are happy to provide you with speaker photographs, jacket images, and biographies to assist in your promotional efforts.
Can we speak directly with a speaker before the engagement?
Most speakers make themselves available for a planning call with event organizers once they’ve been booked for a speaking engagement. We will forward any necessary additional communications.
How long are the speakers available to talk for?
Every speaker has different preferences. Many are comfortable with 45 minutes. Some may speak for 75–90 minutes. The Speaker and the event host will work to determine the optimal speech length.
Can the speaker appear at or participate in extra functions, such as dinner, a reception, or book signing?
This varies by speaker, and their availability. Please make additional requests as early as possible to provide the speaker time to prepare.
Can I order books for a signing at my event?
We can help you bring in a local bookseller to sell at the event, or we can assist you in ordering books to resell or giveaway.
Will speakers have a rider and specific A/V requirements?
Requirements for audio-visual equipment, lighting, microphones, refreshments, etc will vary by speaker. We will provide all information and requests from the speaker so that you and at the speaker are both well prepared.
Can we record the lecture?
Most speaker's will allow taping. Terms will be included in the contract.
I am looking for representation. How do I become a part of the your speakers bureau?
In the future, we plan to represent authors represented by colleagues but for now, we represent solely authors of Lynn Johnston Literary.
